Chinese work visa:
Beginning from November, China will trial a new system that will provide work visas to foreigners who speak Mandarin, the official language of Asia’s largest economy.
It will first be rolled out in Shanghai only and then extended to all other parts of the country in April next year.
It is said that the percentage of foreigners living in China who speak Mandarin, or any other languages of China, is very low. This is despite the fact that one cannot have a complete social life there if one does not have a working knowledge of Mandarin.
Chinese work visas for foreigners:
Meanwhile, Shanghai has its own local dialect known as Shanghainese, which is quite different from the standard Mandarin. Since it is the second most popular destination for foreigners in China, this system would be tested here with a point-scoring method. Shanghai Daily says that applicants for work visas need to score a minimum of 65 points in various areas to be considered as per the new system. Now, HSK, the official Mandarin proficiency examination, can be taken from anywhere in the world.
Work in China:
For those already living in Shanghai, they can brush up their local language skills by attending professional Chinese language schools such as GoEast in Yangpu District, if they are keen on extending their stay in the world’s second-largest economy.
